Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department - Walnut / Diamond Bar Station

If you, a loved one or a family member have been arrested by or are being investigated by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LAPD), Walnut / Diamond Bar Station, it can cause insomnia.

Facing such a situation, it can be helpful to know the bail amount (if any) associated with the offense if police deny an own recognizance (OR) release.  It is also valuable to know what evidence is needed to convict one for the crime or crimes that allegedly took place, the defenses possible and the sentence a judge can impose if one is convicted of the crime.

We at Greg Hill & Associates believe it is good to know a few more things before interacting with any branch of law enforcement.  It can be wise to know the size of the police or sheriff’s department, the area’s demographics, the most common types of crimes the department investigates and just a bit about the area’s history to make one’s communication with law enforcement more meaningful, more savvy and perhaps, more respectful.  This can lead to a better outcome than if one lacks such perspective.

This article is presented with this goal in mind.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Walnut / Diamond Bar Station, is located on East Valley Boulevard in Walnut (the exact address is 21695 East Valley Blvd., Walnut).

It is a large station with an unspecified number of sworn police officers and an unspecified number of civilian support personnel assigned to it.

The Walnut / Diamond Bar Station is responsible for patrolling the City of Walnut, the City of Diamond Bar, Rowland Heights and the unincorporated areas of Covina Hills and unincorporated areas of West Covina.

The City of Walnut itself has a population of 29,172 as of the 2010 census.

The city hosts a highly ranked public school system: the Walnut Valley Unified School District, which has been ranked by numerous sources as one of the top public school districts in Southern California, as well as Mt. San Antonio College (“Mount SAC”).

Walnut is one of the cities with the lowest crime rates in the San Gabriel Valley.

The city covers nearly 9 square miles (23 km2) and is home to hundreds of businesses.  According to the 2010 United States Census, Walnut has a median household income at one of the top-earning percentiles in the country at $101,250.

Most cases arising out of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Walnut / Diamond Bar Station’s areas of responsibility are brought at the West Covina or Pomona Courthouse, but some are also brought at the Clara Shortridge Foltz criminal courts building (CCB) at 210 West Temple Street in downtown Los Angeles.  Cases that may be filed at CCB instead of at the West Covina or Pomona Courthouses would be very serious cases needing specialized prosecutors trained in handling such cases.

Over the last 25 years, our office has handled perhaps 50 cases arising out the Walnut / Diamond Bar Sheriff’s station and brought in the Pomona or West Covina Courthouse.  Such cases vary from DUI to domestic violence, to unlawful possession of a firearm, to sex offenses, to forgery, to shoplifting to solicitation of prostitution.

One of Greg’s most memorable cases out of the Pomona Courthouse was one involving a medical volunteer working at the Pomona County Fairgrounds, helping give COVID-19 vaccine shots.  He was found with several hundred, Los Angeles County Department of Health-stamped and dated vaccine cards, which others had sold online to “anti-vaxers” who wanted to simply fill in one’s name (and avoid receiving the vaccine shot) to enter public places when proof of being vaccinated was required.  He was then charged with felony grand theft and perjury.  Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon had publicly addressed this case in the news, saying it would be punished to the full extent of the law.  However, Greg was able to have the charges reduced to a misdemeanor and our client avoided any jail time.
