The Huntington Park Police Department is responsible for public safety and enforcing laws in Huntington Park, a city of 3.02 square miles.  It does so with fifty-six sworn police officers and fifty-two more civilian employees.  This is large police force for such a small city, but the city has a dense population.

According to the 2010 U.S. census, Huntington Park had a population of 58,114.  The population density was 19,270.0 inhabitants per square mile (7,440.2/km2).  The racial and ethnic makeup of Huntington Park was 56,445 (97.1%) Hispanic or Latino, 29,776 (51.2%) White (1.6% Non-Hispanic White), 440 (0.8%) African American, 393 (0.7%) Asian, 28 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 24,535 (42.2%) from other races, and 2,190 (3.8%) from two or more races.

As of 2000, speakers of Spanish as their first language accounted for 90.77% of residents, while English was spoken by 9.17%, Mandarin or Cantonese by 0.05% of the population.

A 2012 study by the California Center for Public Health Advocacy found Huntington Park, California had the highest percentage of overweight children in all of California with 53% of the city's child population being obese or overweight.

There were 15,151 housing units at an average density of 5,023.9 per square mile, of the occupied units 3,936 (27.0%) were owner-occupied and 10,661 (73.0%) were rented.

During 2009–2013, Huntington Park had a median household income of $36,397, with 28.7% of the population living below the federal poverty line.

According to Neighborhood Scout, “[w]ith a crime rate of forty-six per one thousand residents, Huntington Park has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities.  One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in twenty-two.  Within California, more than 95% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Huntington Park.”

“Separately, it is always interesting and important to compare a city's crime rate with those of similarly sized communities - a fair comparison as larger cities tend to have more crime.  Neighborhood Scout has done just that.  With a population of 52,633, Huntington Park has a combined rate of violent and property crime that is very high compared to other places of similar population size.  Regardless of whether Huntington Park does well or poorly compared to all other cities and towns in the US of all sizes, compared to places with a similar population, it fares badly.  Few other communities of this size have a crime rate as high as Huntington Park.”

“For Huntington Park, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to Neighborhood Scout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Huntington Park is one in 126.”

“In addition, Neighborhood Scout found that a lot of the crime that takes place in Huntington Park is property crime. Property crimes that are tracked for this analysis are burglary, larceny over fifty dollars, motor vehicle theft, and arson. In Huntington Park, your chance of becoming a victim of a property crime is one in twenty-six, which is a rate of thirty-eight per one thousand population.”

Lastly, Neighborhood Scout noted that “Importantly, we found that Huntington Park has one of the highest rates of motor vehicle theft in the nation according to our analysis of FBI crime data.  This is compared to communities of all sizes, from the smallest to the largest. In fact, your chance of getting your car stolen if you live in Huntington Park is one in seventy.”
