San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department - Rancho Cucamonga Station

If you, a loved one, a family member or a friend have been arrested by or are being investigated by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department from the city-operated Rancho Cucamonga Station, it can cause a lot of angst, mostly just from anxiety from not knowing what will happen or can happen.  Moreover, one is dependent upon the competence, honesty and accuracy of a sheriff’s deputy, who may or may not be experienced or have the same sense of urgency as you in having the police report properly written.

The City of Rancho Cucamonga operates the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department station in Rancho Cucamonga.  The station is located at 10510 Civic Center Drive in Rancho Cucamonga. 

It is a large station with 187 total personnel attached to it.  We would estimate that, based on how staffing is apportioned at other stations, the Rancho Cucamonga station has approximately 130 sworn deputies and forty-seven civilian support personnel assigned to it.  

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is 40.12 square miles and has a population of 174,625 as of the 2020 Census.  Rancho Cucamonga’s city limits do not extend to Interstate 10.

By 1200 AD, Kukamongan Native Americans had established a village settlement in the area around present-day Red Hill, near the city's western border, where Red Hill Country Club stands today.  Kukamonga derives its name from a Tongva word meaning "sandy place."  In turn, Rancho Cucamonga derives its name from the Kukamongan village once located in present day Rancho Cucamonga. 
The city's proximity to major transportation hubs, airports (i.e., Ontario Airport0, and highways has attracted the business of several large corporations, including Coca Cola, Frito-Lay, Big Lots, Mercury Insurance Group, Southern California Edison and Amphaster Pharmaceuticals.  

For arrests along Interstate 15 and State Route 210 crossing Rancho Cucamonga, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will normally handle this work, although one may be thereafter transported to the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Department for processing, a breath test (if a DUI) and booking.  The person may also be held at the Rancho Cucamonga jail until bail is posted or the person is transferred to the larger West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.  

As of 2020, Rancho Cucamonga’s population was 34.35% non-Hispanic white, 14.44% Asian, 8.73% African American and 37.41% Hispanic.

Most cases arising out of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department from the city-operated Rancho Cucamonga Station areas of responsibility are brought at the Rancho Cucamonga Courthouse, but some are also brought at the San Bernardino Hall of Justice at 4100 Main Street in downtown San Bernardino.  

Over the last 25 years, our office has handled perhaps seventy-five cases arising out of Rancho Cucamonga and prosecuted in the Rancho Cucamonga Courthouse.  They have ranged from DUI to elder abuse, domestic violence to violating a restraining order, public intoxication from concerts nearby at the Glen Helen Recreation Center, to shoplifting at the local mall, to many post-conviction matters.  

We also have received many phone calls from people in Rancho Cucamonga asking about hiring a criminal defense attorney.  We find that locals to the Rancho Cucamonga often distrust local criminal defense attorneys as being social friends with prosecutors and judges, so they are unwilling to fight too hard to preserve their friendships, so we are considered as counsel instead because we are not located in Rancho Cucamonga and presumably have no such ties or loyalties.
