Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department - Malibu / Lost Hills Station
If a loved one, a family member or you have been arrested by or are being investigated by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LAPD), Lost Hills / Malibu Station, it can cause a lot of anxiety.
Facing such a situation, it can be good to know the bail amount (if any) associated with the offense if police deny an own recognizance (OR) release. It is also valuable to know what evidence is needed to convict one for the crime that allegedly took place, the defenses possible and the sentence a judge can impose if one is convicted of the crime.
We at Greg Hill & Associates believe it is smart to know a few more things before interacting with any branch of law enforcement. It can be helpful to know the size of the police or sheriff’s department, the area’s demographics, the most common types of crimes the department investigates and just a bit about the area’s history to make one’s communication with law enforcement more meaningful, more savvy and perhaps, more respectful. This can lead to a better outcome than if one lacks such perspective.
This article is presented with this goal in mind.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Lost Hills / Malibu station has an unspecified number of sworn police officers and an unspecified number of civilian support personnel assigned to it.
The Lost Hills / Malibu Station is responsible for City of Agoura Hills, City of Calabasas, City of Hidden Hills, City of Malibu, City of Westlake Village, Chatsworth Lake Manor, Malibu Lake, Topanga and West Hills.
In the 1920’s, what is now the City of Agoura Hills was briefly known as Picture City, as Paramount Pictures owned a ranch known as Paramount Ranch used for filming Westerns.
More recently, Agoura Hills is known regionally for its live music scene and originality in the nu metal scene, a fame that has given rise to such acts as Linkin Park, Dub Thompson, Skye Aspen, Incubus, Hoobastank and Fort Minor.
The racial makeup of Agoura Hills was 84.3% White (78.6% Non-Hispanic White), 7.5% Asian, and 9.5% Hispanic or Latino.
The City of Calabasas is named after the Spanish word calabazas, meaning “winter squashes” (the area abounds in wild squashes). The city is bordered by the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles to the northeast, Topanga to the east, Malibu to the south, Agoura Hills to the west, and Hidden Hills to the north.
The racial makeup of the city was 85.92% White (including a large Iranian community and people of Jewish faith or ancestry), 2.18% Black or African American, 7.71% Asian, and 4.74% Hispanics or Latinos.
West Hills is bordered by mountain ranges to the west and the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Chatsworth to the north, Canoga Park to the east, and Woodland Hills to the south. As of 2010, the ethnic-racial composition of the neighborhood was 78.89% white, 11.97% Asian, 2.11% African American, and 9.26% Latino or Hispanic. As of the year 2000, eleven percent of the population were military veterans, a high rate for the city and the county, and the percentages of veterans who served during World War II and the Korean War were among the county's highest.
For traffic matters that arise on the freeways (I-101 (Ventura Freeway) and the Ronald Reagan Freeway) in this area, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) generally handles such matters, not the Lost Hills / Malibu Station.
Most cases arising out of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Lost Hills / Malibu Station’s areas of responsibility are brought at the Van Nuys or Airport Courthouses, but some are also brought at the Clara Shortridge Foltz criminal courts building (CCB) at 210 West Temple Street in downtown Los Angeles. Cases that may be filed at CCB instead of at the Van Nuys or Airport Courthouse would be very serious cases needing specialized prosecutors trained in handling such cases.
Our office has handled many shoplifting, DUI and domestic violence cases arising out the City of Lost Hills / Malibu and brought in the Van Nuys or Airport Courthouses.
