Beaumont Police Department

If a loved one, a family member or you have been arrested by or are being investigated by the Beaumont Police Department, it can cause a lot of apprehension, mostly just from fear of the unknown of what will happen or can happen. Moreover, one is dependent upon the honesty, accuracy and competence of a police officer, who may or may not be experienced or have the same sense of urgency as you in having the police report properly written.
Facing such a situation, knowing the bail amount (if any) associated with the offense or offenses at issue if police deny an own recognizance (OR) release may help decrease one’s angst. It is also good to know what evidence is needed to convict one for the crime or crimes that allegedly took place, the defenses possible and the sentence a judge can impose if one is convicted of the crime or crimes.
We at Greg Hill & Associates believe it is prudent to know a few more things before interacting with any branch of law enforcement. It can be smart to know the size of the police or sheriff’s department, the area’s demographics, a bit of history about the town, city or area, and the most common types of crimes the department investigates to make one’s communication with law enforcement more meaningful, more savvy and perhaps, more respectful. This can lead to a better outcome than if one lacks such perspective.
This article is presented with these goals in mind.
The Beaumont Police Department is a medium sized police force, although we found no specifics about exactly how many sworn police officers and civilian support staff are assigned to it. The station is responsible for enforcing the laws and public safety in Beaumont, a city of 30.23 square miles and a population of 50,036 as of 2020.
Beaumont, which is French for "Beautiful Mountain," received its name in 1887 from Henry C. Sigler, president of the Southern California Investment Company, for its view of Mount San Jacinto.
During the Cold War, a Lockheed rocket test site operated by Simi Valley-based Rocketdyne was established south of Beaumont in Potrero Canyon. In late 2003, the majority of the Potrero Canyon site was sold to the state of California. Toxic chemicals used in rocket fuel and site test activities have been found in the soil and groundwater at the site, and planning is underway to begin cleanup sometime in the next few years.
For arrests along the freeways crossing Beaumont (State Route 60 (the Moreno Valley Freeway) and Interstate 10), the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will normally handle this work, although one may be thereafter transported to the Beaumont Police Department or the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning for processing, a breath test (if a DUI) and booking. The person may also be held at the Banning or Beaumont jail until bail is posted or the person is transferred to the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
As of 2010, the city’s population was 42.9% non-Hispanic white, 7.7% Asian, 6.2% African American and 40.3% Hispanic.
Most cases arising out of the Beaumont Police Department’s areas of responsibility are brought at the Banning Courthouse, but some are also brought at the Riverside Hall of Justice at 4100 Main Street in downtown Riverside. Cases that may be filed at the Riverside Hall of Justice instead of at the Banning Courthouse would be very serious cases needing specialized prosecutors trained in handling such cases.
Over the last 25 years, our office has handled no cases arising out the Beaumont Police Station and brought in the Banning Courthouse. However, we would expect such cases to include, but not be limited to DUI, domestic violence, shoplifting and possession / possession for sales of a controlled substance.
We find that locals to the Banning area, which is just east of Beaumont, often distrust local criminal defense attorneys as being friends with prosecutors and judges, so they are unwilling to fight too hard, so we are hired instead because we are not “local” and thus we presumably have no such ties or loyalties.
