Anaheim Police Department

If you, a loved one or a family member have been arrested by or are being investigated by the Anaheim Police Department, it can cause frustration and fear of the unknown.
Facing such a situation, it can be valuable to know the bail amount (if any) associated with the offense if police deny an own recognizance (OR) release. It is also helpful to know what evidence is needed to convict one for the crime or crimes that allegedly took place, the defenses possible and the sentence a judge can impose if one is convicted of the crime or crimes.
We at Greg Hill & Associates believe it is good to know a few more things before interacting with any branch of law enforcement. It can be prudent to know the size of the police or sheriff’s department, the area’s demographics, the most common types of crimes the department investigates and just a bit about the area’s history to make one’s communication with law enforcement more meaningful, more savvy and perhaps, more respectful. This can lead to a better outcome than if one lacks such perspective.
This article is presented with these goals in mind.
The Anaheim Police Department is spread out in three stations: the main station at 425 South Harbor Boulevard, an East Station at 8201 Santa Ana Canyon Boulevard and a West Station at 320 South Beach Boulevard.
It is a large station with 420 sworn police officers and 170 civilian support personnel assigned to it. It is the largest city police department in Orange County.
The Anaheim Police Department is responsible for patrolling the City of Anaheim, which has a population of 346,824 as of the 2020 census and over 24,000 businesses. It also has over twenty-five million annual visitors due to Disneyland, the Los Angeles Angels baseball team, the Anaheim Ducks hockey team and the Anaheim Convention Center. It is the largest city in Orange County and the tenth largest in California.
The city is 50.88 square miles, which is huge for any city. Anaheim's name is a blend of Ana, after the nearby Santa Ana River, and German heim, meaning "home", which is also a common Germanic place name.
Construction of the Disneyland theme park began on July 16, 1954, and it opened to the public on July 17, 1955. It has become one of the world's most visited tourist attractions, with over 650 million visitors since its opening.
The location was formerly 160 acres (0.65 km2) of orange and walnut trees. The opening of Disneyland created a tourism boom in the Anaheim area. Walt Disney had originally intended to purchase additional land to build accommodations for Disneyland visitors; however, the park's construction drained his financial resources and he was unable to acquire more land.
However, entrepreneurs eager to capitalize on Disney's success moved in and built hotels, restaurants, and shops around Disneyland and eventually boxed in the Disney property, and turned the area surrounding Disneyland into the boulevards of colorful neon signs that Walt Disney had tried to avoid. The City of Anaheim, eager for tax revenue these hotels would generate, did little to obstruct their construction.
As of 2010, the city’s population was 27.5% non-Hispanic white, 14.8% Asian (Vietnamese being 4.4%), 2.8% African American and 52.8% Hispanic (with 46.0% being of Mexican heritage).
Most cases arising out of the Anaheim Police Department’s areas of responsibility are brought at the Fullerton Courthouse, but some are also brought at the Central Justice Center at 700 Civic Center Driver West in downtown Santa Ana. Cases that may be filed at the Central Justice Center instead of at the Fullerton Courthouse would be very serious cases needing specialized prosecutors trained in handling such cases.
Over the last 25 years, our office has handled perhaps 150 cases arising out the Anaheim Police Station and brought in the Fullerton Courthouse. Such cases vary from DUI to solicitation of prostitution, to domestic violence, to public intoxication, to shoplifting.
